Day 43 - Sun, Sea and Neckid People
Thursday 7th August 2014
it took a while to realise, tired as we were, that a third of the people around us are buck naked. It seems we have strayed into a naturist colony. I guess we shouldn't be surprised this being the Istrian peninsular, which is famous for such behaviour.
There
are some sights that are best not seen! Fat German matrons wobbling
down to the water counts as one of them. But there are, as you might
say, compensations. It's a strange world.
We encountered a mega grasshopper that appears to have lost one of his giant back legs, which seriously curtails his hopping skills.
But here it's wonderful to be on the seashore. Very peaceful, no music except for the gentle murmur of the sea. The patrons are all content to simply commune, some of them quite literally, with nature.
I
buy a set of swim goggles and spend the whole day in and out of the
sea. The water is warm and not very salty. There's a fresh water shower
on the pebbly beach right in front of our tents. Spag bol and carbonara
for lunch in the beach bar and restaurant, a chunk of whole roasted
piglet for dinner. It's glorious.
Tomorrow we have to leave this idyll. We're going back north into Slovenia to place Mick into his natural habitat - down a deep hole in the ground.
